TESTIMONIAL

Emma Story

I live in Bologna where I study and work to pay my rent and university expenses, so as not to rely entirely on my parents. I love reading a lot.
My main project is to become a social worker, but immediately after raduating, I want to take a sabbatical year to travel and volunteer around the world.
The first time I lost my hair, I was 2 years old.
After a few months, it grew back, and until the age of 10, I had hair like “normal” children.
At 10, it began to fall out again, very gradually, until at 13, I had almost lost it all.

I have no memory of the first phase of alopecia; I was very young.
However, I am convinced that this first experience helped me when the disease reappeared; in a sense, I was prepared.
Certainly, I experienced not simple moments: accepting the fact that the situation was slowly but quite efinitively deteriorating made me less confident and therefore much more sensitive to others’ comments.
I remember very well the first day I wore a wig: I was 13, and it was very strange as overnight I went from being almost completely bald to having a full head of hair. I got used to the wig almost immediately, considering it a new accessory.

Testimonial - Emma
“Wearing a wig certainly helps not to overly feel the sense of difference one might experience and to defend oneself from potential prejudice.”

Style

Ginevra 4/6

The wig I wear now, the Ginevra model, is very comfortable and looks natural, fitting every situation in my life.

I really enjoy being in company, going out with my friends, and dancing.
Wearing a wig in no way limits me; I feel free to move and do anything! Especially since I’ve been wearing Ginevra, which feels secure and enveloping, thanks to its special cap with nonslip silicone.

Whereas with the wigs I used in the past, I almost always had to use double-sided tape to feel more secure.

“Wearing a wig has become part of my normality; I feel completely at ease with it.”

I’ve gone through difficult times; this condition has made me very sensitive.
Wearing a wig certainly helps not to overly feel the sense of difference one might experience and to defend oneself from potential prejudice, but I think it’s also important that the decision to use one doesn’t stem from a rejection of the disease.

Only by accepting alopecia can one truly love oneself.
Wearing a wig has become part of my normality; I feel completely at ease with it. But beyond that, I like myself more. I always say that, even if my hair were to grow back, I would find it very hard to part with my Ginevra wig.
I couldn’t imagine myself with any other hair, because this is now who I am!
